Providing Transportation Choices

A Clean, Green Commute

Great Rivers Greenway is a vital part of a growing network of  local transportation efforts. It is working with other local agencies to promote the benefits of bicycle and pedestrian commuting to increase acceptance and  participation. Great Rivers Greenway is integrating greenway development with transportation corridors, to ensure that greenways are relevant to the daily patterns of our region’s residents. The results are encouraging.

The Bike St. Louis system, with about 80 miles of on-street, bike-safe lanes, is highly-used by commuters in St. Louis City and nearby suburbs. Off-street routes, such as the River Des Peres Greenway, are well-used by Metro riders who can assess the Shrewsbury MetroLink station. From the St. Vincent Greenway, it’s a short walk to seven different MetroLink stops. Using the Cottleville Trail in the Dardenne Greenway, people cut two miles off of their trip if they opt to use a bicycle instead of a car.  As people leave their cars in the garage, they are relieving traffic congestion and improving the region’s air and water quality. Great Rivers Greenway has made their journeys walkable and bikeable with transportation choices that fit their needs and the needs of the region.
