May Is Last Chance to Make Suggestions about the Regional Bicycle Plan
Over the past year, The Great Rivers Greenway District has been partnering with local municipal officials and representatives from the Missouri Department of Transportation, St. Louis City, St. Louis and St. Charles counties, Metro, East-West Gateway Council of Governments and Trailnet to create a master bicycle plan for on-road in St. Louis City, St. Louis County and St. Charles County. The purpose of the plan, which will be implemented over the next two decades, is to enhance on-road connectivity to the multi-use trails among communities and neighborhoods throughout our region.

Celebrate New Connections in the Meramec Greenway June 10
Area residents are invited to come out on Friday, June 10, and walk or ride their bikes on a new 3.3 mile segment of the Meramec Greenway Trail. The new section of the planned Meramec Greenway trail connects Arnold’s Grove at Highway 141 to Greentree Park with a continuous paved trail. Parking will be available at the three featured trailheads that can be found along the completed stretch. The three trailheads include Greentree Park in Kirkwood and Arnold’s Grove and Simpson County Park, both of which are in Valley Park.

Mother of Bicycling Advocate Finds Sustainable Way to Honor Daughter’s Legacy
In March 2002, Nancy MacKerrow’s life changed forever. She learned that her daughter, Susie Stephens, had tragically lost her life during what was supposed to be an ordinary business trip. Susie, a resident of Spokane, Wash., had been in downtown St. Louis helping to direct a conference on innovative approaches to transportation when she was struck and killed by a tour bus at the corner of 4th and Chestnut streets while legally crossing the street.

Residents Invited to Point Out Problems in Walking to the St. Vincent Greenway
The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded the 26th Ward of the City of St. Louis with free technical assistance to conduct a walking audit. An important feature to be discussed during the workshop is the upcoming construction of St. Vincent Greenway through Porter Park and Etzel Avenue in the ward.
