Dardenne Greenway Features New Native Plantings

Susan, Steve, Len

Despite threatening skies, the three miles of the Dardenne Greenway at St. Peters officially opened on September 10. The trail connects Woodlands Sports, Glen Travis, Rabbit Run, and Dardenne Parks to adjoining neighborhoods.

Of particular interest is the emphasis on preserving and enhancing natural features, including wetlands, woodlands, and prairie. Wildflowers and native trees have been planted along the length of the trail. The City of St. Peters anticipates joint use of the Rabbit Run facility with St. Charles Community College, which will utilize the newly planted native landscape in research and education.

In the photo Great Rivers Greenway Executive Director Susan Trautman and St. Charles County Executive Steve Ehlmann listen appreciatively as St. Peters Mayor Len Pagano describes his joy at seeing families exploring the trail.
