Crumbling Brick Pump House to Become Rest and Observation Area

A former water pump house adjacent to the Riverfront Trail and jutting
out into the Mississippi River is now being reconstructed to serve as a
viewing platform and rest area for cyclists and walkers.
Reconstruction of the wall to half height, a new roof, and simple
concrete benches inside will result in a shelter open to the
elements—and the great views—for trail users.
The location at the east end of Mullanphy Street, off of North Broadway,
will be ideally suited for watching the construction of the new
Mississippi River Bridge. The City of St. Louis Port Authority has
leased the pump house to Great Rivers Greenway. The Americorps Trail
Rangers sponsored by Grace Hill will maintain this amenity, which should
be complete in about three months.
