The Great Rivers Greenway District provided funding to construct bicycle and pedestrian access across the McKinley Bridge. The project will link existing and future bicycle and greenway projects in Missouri and Illinois. The Greenway District in partnership with its Illinois counterpart, the Metro-East Park and Recreation District, will construct the bicycle and pedestrain access between Missouri and Illinois.

Status In 2003, the Greenway District commissioned a feasibility study to determine appropriate bicycle and pedestrian connections. In 2004, the Greenway District approved funding for additional engineering and to coordinate with the Illinois Department of Transportation on the construction of the McKinley Bridge Bikeway. Construction of the bikeway was completed in 2008.
